Agriculture & Manufacturing & Hospitality

Client

YOKI GROUP LLC is a Ukrainian company specializing in branded restaurant development and food service operations. The company is renowned for creating unique gastronomic spaces, particularly the successful YOKI chain of pan-Asian cuisine restaurants.

Legal Support Area

Legal support for secure brand entry into the European Union market.

Project Summary

In July 2024, YOKI GROUP LLC engaged Polikarpov Law Firm to register two trademarks in the European Union. The “YOKI” trademark serves as the company’s flagship brand and core restaurant identity. Having achieved recognition and commercial success in Ukraine, the brand sought EU market expansion. “Silk Drink” represents a new trademark for their premium beverage concept and cocktail bar initiative.

During initial consultations, Polikarpov Law Firm assessed risks in the EU HoReCa market, conducted clearance searches for conflicting marks, and provided strategic guidance for goods and services specifications following EUIPO practice. The team helped secure partial trademark cost reimbursement through the SME Fund.

In March 2025, both trademarks received successful registration in the European Union through the EUIPO system.

Client’s Goal

To achieve secure and strategic market entry for two distinct brands in the EU.

Project Complexity

The project presented several challenges including high risk of conflicts due to the “YOKI” mark’s stylistic elements. Strategic positioning was needed for “Silk Drink” trademark across alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage categories. The implementation required a cost-effective approach through EU funding programs for SMEs and time-sensitive execution aligned with brand rollout strategy.

Polikarpov Law Firm’s Actions

The firm conducted comprehensive EU market clearance and legal risk analysis, created customized registration strategy for each trademark, and developed precise specifications for goods and services according to EUIPO standards. We submitted and managed trademark applications through EUIPO, facilitated SME Fund grant application and reimbursement process, and coordinated with EU partners throughout the project.
